The Granada City Council completes the improvement plan for all traffic lights in the city with LED lights and increases their visibility so that pedestrians are the priority.

The mayor of Granada, Francisco Cuenca, has announced the completion of a plan to improve the visibility of all traffic lights in the city with the implementation of Led lights and increasing the height to 2.20 meters, as established by European regulations , with which we take a very important step in improving pedestrian safety and, therefore, in the implementation of a new mobility model for Granada where the priority is pedestrians.

The highest municipal official has highlighted that municipal action responds to the government teams commitment to favor, compared to previous mandates where it was only committed to road traffic, a new mobility paradigm where the priority is the pedestrian, not the cars , he said, to then add that within this plan, work is being done to place the height of the 817 traffic lights, existing at 103 crossings in the city, at 2.20 meters.

The measure, in his words, allows the Granada City Council to comply with European regulations on accessibility that requires that traffic lights have a height of 2.20 meters to guarantee both their visibility and the safety of the pedestrian to avoid possible collisions with them.

Likewise, he explained that the government team is finalizing, these days, the replacement of 300 existing incandescent lamps still in traffic lights with Led technology lights, a measure that, as he has stressed, represents a considerable energy saving of 86%. cent and, therefore, lower spending for municipal coffers.

Accompanied by the councilors of the Presidency, Ana Muñoz Arquelladas, and of Mobility and Citizen Security, Raquel Ruz, Francisco Cuenca has carried out these demonstrations during the usual visit to neighborhoods that he makes every week to a district of the city and that in This occasion took place on Avenida Cervantes, Genil district, where, together with neighborhood and social representatives, they have verified the actions in reorganization of traffic and improvement of accessibility that are being carried out.

Specifically, in Cervantes avenue, while proceeding to increase the height of the traffic lights, a new traffic light has been installed in a pedestrian crossing, located in the vicinity of an educational center, with which we give an answer to a historic vindication of the neighborhood, aimed at improving access to small and medium-sized businesses, guaranteeing the safety of mobility in an area with a considerable traffic flow and, above all, ending the insecurity that occurred at the entrance and departure of the schoolchildren to school.

After highlighting the true effort made by the Mobility area in terms of road safety, he indicated that, although these issues may seem irrelevant, they are undoubtedly of great help to citizens who see how we improve your quality of life .

In this case, with a budget of 25,568 euros, the plan to improve the traffic light network will ensure the pacification of road traffic in the city, with which, without a doubt, we are taking a further step in increasing traffic pedestrian protection and safety.
