Frecuent afecctions to mobility at Holy Week: traffic cuts, diversions, traffic jam hotspots, processions, Official Route.

Holy Week

At Easter is needed to activate a special plan of mobility, traffic, public transport and road safety.

Municipal Police, Health personnel and workers from several municipal departments integrate the 'Plan Parihuela', that is pushed on while Easter in Granada to prevent and solve incidences that could be done in this holidays, declared as International Tourist Interest.

Term

This special plan is usually actived from Friday before Easter (Viernes de Dolores) to Easter Sunday.

Traffic restrictions

Traffic cuts in Carrera Oficial (Official route)

At 17:00 h. (approx.) every accesses and routes on Gran Vía de Colón, Reyes Católicos, Acera del Darro, Recogidas street and the environment of Mariana Pineda square and near streets, begin to be closed to the traffic due to different processions, by Carrera Oficial that runs by Mariana Pineda square - Ángel Ganivet street - Puerta Real de España - Recogidas street - Alhóndiga street - Jáudenes street - Marqués de Gerona street - Pasiegas square - Cathedral of Granada.

They will pay special attention to private traffic that runs inside the contour made up by: Cruz de Lagos, Palacio de Congresos, Poeta Manuel de Góngora street and Puente Verde, because it's usually needed to do traffic cuts and detours if the traffic get much slow in the access of vehicles to the city center.

The plan envisages as main points of traffic regulation the main ways and avenues of the city, as Juan Pablo II avenue, the roundabouts of Rotary square, under the A44 highway, Arabial - Méndez Núñez streets crossing or Acera del Darro environment, Humilladero square and Villarejo zone, inter alia.

Wax on the pavement

Due to religious parades , during all week there will be wax on the pavement, being very dangerous specially for two wheeled vehicles. Normally, traffic in San Matías and Varela streets is restricted to motorbikes and mopeds during Holy Week.

At the end of it, there will be traffic cuts in Ángel Ganivet street, San Matías to remove the wax on the pavement. Normally, these works take place on the following monday of the Holy Week.

Public Transport

It'll be issued the access to the public transport while processions let it. (As a rule, there will be traffic cuts one hour before in city center: Gran Vía - Reyes Católicos - Puerta Real de España).

While processions let it, urban buses always will use Severo Ochoa avenue, Fuente Nueva avenue, Albert Einstein square, Martínez de la Rosa street and Camino de Ronda southbound. And will go through Camino de Ronda, Méndez Núñez street, Severo Ochoa avenue Northbound, for the usual development of the public transport.

In order to improve the operation of the City Buses, turning left will be allowed in Recogidas street with Camino de Ronda crossing with Local Police in this point if detour to Recogidas street is possible. If Recogidas streets should be closed due to traffic cut on Puerta Real, Camino de Ronda - Paseo del Violón will be used.

There will be 3 taxi stops near the traffic closed area: first on Acera del Darro, beside El Corte Inglés, towards Carrera de la Virgen or Puente de Castañeda; second on Recogidas street, near Puerta Real de España, towards Camino de Ronda; and third on Gran Vía de Colón, beside ancient building of Banco de España.

During Easter the universitary bus lines don't get to Cartuja Campus or even don't work (www.transportesrober.com for further information).

Minibuses lines (C30, C31, C32, C34 and C35), modify their route, and even stop working depending the traffic closed area.

  • Lines C31 and C34 do their header beside Triunfo roundabout, getting to and from Albaicín and Sacromonte by Murcia Road.
  • Lines C30 and C35 modify their routes, from Paseo de los Balios towards Cuesta del Caidero, and then to Alhambra.
  • Line C32 stop working
